Auto Accident – Illegal Driving Maneuvers

In the city of San Luis Obispo, illegal driving maneuvers may mean any actions taken by a driver that put others at risk. An illegal driving maneuver is not a legal or formal concept in itself, but a blanket term used to describe several moving violations.

There are several examples of what could be constituted as an illegal driving maneuver. Changing lanes when road markers prohibit it, illegal U-turns, turning right on a red light despite signage indicating that the act is not permitted and running a stop sign can all be considered illegal driving maneuvers.

Although the city of San Luis Obispo and the state of California do not legally classify what dictates an illegal driving maneuver, laws do inform the public that signage and other traffic control devices must be obeyed. When a driver neglects to obey any traffic control device and an accident results, that driver could be considered at fault.

It’s important for drivers to understand that traffic control devices and signage are put in place for specific reasons. These warnings and lawful instructions are placed at specific points by the Department of Transportation after studying intersections and other areas. Traffic control devices are put in place with the intention of keeping drivers and their passengers safe.

When a driver is at fault in an accident, they may be legally obligated to make financial compensation to the victim. Such compensation may include lost wages, past and future medical bills, and more.
